Born in Taitung, Professor Chu graduated from the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures at National Taiwan University and obtained her Master's and Doctoral degrees in Japan. Her doctoral dissertation, focusing on Okinawan writer Medoruma Shun, initiated her critical reflections on Taiwan from East Asian and post-colonial perspectives. After spending over two years as a visiting scholar in the United States, she developed deeper insights into critical theories, cultural studies, and transnational comparative research.

Since joining the Taiwan Literature Institute at National Chung Hsing University, Professor Chu has continuously explored the construction of Taiwanese subjectivity under post-colonial and globalization contexts, and how humanities research can connect with social practices. Her initial research centered on modernity and racial relations in Taiwanese literature during the Japanese colonial period, culminating in her published work "Transplantation and Translation of 'Modernity': Post-colonial Reflections on Taiwanese Novels during the Japanese Colonial Period" (Maitian Press, 2009).

In recent years, her research has expanded to comparative studies of post-war Taiwanese and Okinawan literature and imagery, adopting perspectives of "non-state" islands in East Asia. She has particularly focused on environmental issues in East Asian literature and visual media, with special attention to nuclear-related topics.

出生於台東，台大外文系畢業，在日本取得碩士與博士學位。博士論文以沖繩作家目取真俊為對象，開始從東亞與後殖民的觀點反思台灣。到美國訪問兩年多，對於英語圈批判理論、文化研究、跨國比較研究等產生進一步思考。任教於中興台文所之後，不斷思考後殖民與全球化下台灣的主體性建構、人文研究如何與社會實踐連結等問題。研究主題首先關注於日治時期台灣文學中的現代性議題與種族關係，出版《「現代」的移植與翻譯：日治時期台灣小說的後殖民思考》（麥田，2009）。近年來透過東亞「非國家」島嶼的觀點，進行戰後台灣與沖繩的文學與影像比較研究，並關注於東亞文學與影像中的環境議題，尤其是核能相關議題。
