The Graduate Institute of Taiwan Literature and Transnational Cultural Studies at National Chung Hsing University (NCHU) was established in August, 2004. As the first graduate institute that offers Taiwan literature programs in central Taiwan, it is dedicated to cultivating students capable of advancing and promoting the study of Taiwan literature in a global context.
The interests and expertise of the teaching staff of the institute are wide and varied, but all members of staff conduct their research and teaching with a transnational approach. Working closely with other departments and institutes at NCHU, such as the Department of Foreign Languages and Literature, Department of History, and the Graduate Institute of Library and Information Science, the Institute offers a wide range of courses of intellectual depth and breath.
With a strong focus on interdisciplinary and inter-university collaboration, the Institute broadens the scope of its curriculum through active interaction with other fields such as arts, film, history, anthropology, and folklore studies. To help students develop as global citizens, the institute also maintains close working relations with experts in related fields from other countries as it provides a platform for students to engage in scholarly dialogue with international academic communities. The Institute continues to strengthen its international network of partner institutions and collaborative teaching programs to promote Taiwan literature under a transnational research framework.
In a continued effort to offer solid training in Taiwan Literature while aligning itself with international academic standards, the Institute has recently set up a Doctoral Degree Program in Taiwan Literature and Transnational Cultural Studies in collaboration with the Department of Foreign Languages and Literature and the College of Liberal Arts of NCHU.
