| 1 | The Regulations Governing the Scholarships and Grants for Graduate Students of the NCHU Taiwan Literature and Transnational Cultural Studies (hereinafter referred to as “the regulations”) were set up in accordance with the “National Chung Hsing University Regulations Governing Graduate Students' Scholarships and Grants.” | | 2 | The Review Committee of Taiwan Literature and Transnational Cultural Studies (hereinafter referred to as “the Institute”) is responsible for the processing of applications and the allocation of scholarships and grants. The chairman of the Institute serves as an ex officio and convener of the Committee and all full-time faculty members of the Institute serve as committee members. | | 3 | All applicants must file scholarship or grant applications with the Institute's Office immediately after they complete the student registration process each semester. On-the-job graduate students are not eligible to apply. Scholarships and grants are provided to newly enrolled graduate students between September and June in the following year, and to current students between July and June in the following year. | | 4 | Three types of scholarships and grants are available to students of the Institute: General Scholarships,Teaching Assistant Grants, and Outstanding Service Grants. | General Scholarships (獎學金) aim to recognize students who achieved high scores in the Institute's entrance examinations or during the admission evaluation process, whose research is published in national or international journals, or who achieve high scores in foreign language proficiency examinations. The total amount of the General Scholarships should be no less than 10% of the Institute's total annual scholarships and grants budget. | a | The General Scholarships are provided to student(s) of the Institute who achieved the highest score in the prospective students evaluation process of the year. Qualified applicants will receive NT$20,000 in the first semester year but is exempted from receiving tuition and incidental expenses subsidy available to NCHU undergraduate students who are granted direct admission into the university's graduate programs. Those who fail to complete the student registration process are not eligible to receive the Scholarship | | b | The General Scholarships are available to students who graduate from NCHU and are granted admission into the Institute's graduate programs in the same year regardless of their undergraduate major. The aforementioned students' academic performance in the first 6 semesters of their undergraduate study (or the first 8 semesters for students of NCHU extension education programs or Department of Veterinarian Science) must rank among the top 20% of the class to qualify them for the Scholarship. Qualified applicants will receive a tuition and incidental expenses subsidy twice each semester year, in September and February respectively. | | c | The General Scholarships are available to students of the Institute whose full-text academic paper is published in national or international journals which have a stringent review process. Students may receive up to NT$5,000 for each paper that meets the aforementioned criteria. Qualified applicants are exempted from other journal publication scholarships provided by NCHU. | | d | The General Scholarships are available to students of the Institute who attend and present paper in international conferences organized or co-organized by the Institute. Applicants deemed qualified by the Review Committee are eligible to receive the Scholarship. | | e | The General Scholarships are available to students of the Institute who achieve high scores in foreign language proficiency examinations. Applicants deemed qualified by the Review Committee are eligible to receive the Scholarship. | Teaching Assistant Grants (助學金) are available to students of the Institutes who hold TA positions and help facilitate general teaching affairs. The amount of Teaching Assistant Grant is calculated and adjusted each year by the Institute's Review Committee based on the annual total budget provided by the University. The total budget allocated for the Teaching Assistant Grants should be no less than 30% of the Institute's total annual scholarships and grants budget. Outstanding Service Grants (服務學習獎勵金) aim to reward students of the Institutes who have provided valuable service to the program by devoting time and efforts to assist with the Institute's general affairs. Candidates of the Service Grants are nominated by full-time teaching faculty of the Institute and reviewed by the Review Committee at the end of each semester. The Service Grants are provided to qualified applicants in the form of lump sum. The total budget allocated for the Service Grants should be no less than 20% of the Institute's total annual scholarships and grants budget. Recipients of the Teaching Assistant Grant who fail to assist with the Institute's teaching affairs or those who receive demerits (or above discipline) due to violation of NCHU regulations are not eligible to apply or receive the Institute's scholarships or grants The regulations have been reviewed by the Institute Affairs Council at the Institute Meetings and approved by the president of NCHU.
